International Selection Ideal Cut Grade

The ideal cut grade for our International Selection round diamonds is based the inverse crown and pavillion angle theory. Additionally, GIA must have graded the polish and symmetry as excellent for us to assign the diamond as ideal.

We separate diamonds that are graded excellent by GIA into ideal and excellent as the GIA cut grades are very broad. Therefore, it is possible for a perfectly cut diamond to obtain an excellent cut grade, whilst a much lesser quality diamond will still obtain the excellent cut grade.

Currently, only about 14% of diamonds meet our ideal cut standards.

Another factor when determining if a diamond is ideal cut is the brillianteering, or how the minor facets are cut. This is not shown on the GIA certificate and can only be examined with technologies such as The Ideal-Scope, AGS ASET and proportion scanners. If you are concerned about "non-standard" brillianteering, please either choose an international selection diamond with Ideal-Scope, AGS ASET or arrows photos or one from our Crossfire or Signature Series.
